Russia’s major air carrier Aeroflot won its lawsuit at the World Intellectual Property Organization’s (WIPO) Arbitration and Mediation Center over the aeroflot.xxx domain name, according to Izvestia newspaper.

Koba Gigineshvili, the domain’s administrator, told Izvestia that he does not agree with the ruling and is now considering appealing it.

Domains at .xxx began to be registered last September. This domain zone has been designed for adult content.

The WIPO passed its decision on August 1 and the official letter stating the ruling was distributed among the parties in the trial on August 9. The term to transfer the domain has passed, but aeroflot.xxx is still owned by Koba Gigineshvili.

Anton Sergo, a lawyer specializing in domain name cases, said that if the company through which Gigineshvili registered the domain name fails to facilitate its transfer, the company risks losing its accreditation.

There is no hardcore adult content on the aeroflot.xxx domain, only videos and pictures of planes and women wearing bikinis. The domain’s administrator assured Izvestia, that he is not going to post any pornographic material there.

Nevertheless, Aeroflot believed the website’s content was compromising and sought to close the website down and obtain ownership of the domain via court.

Based in Moscow’s Sheremetyevo airport, Aeroflot is a member of the SkyTeam Alliance, which flies to 898 destinations across 169 countries. Its aircraft fleet is one of the youngest in Europe.
